I will start by making a paraphrasing of a famous speech by Jon Bon Jovi from 1996 made during his legendary concert in Helsinki, Finland and it has a symbolic relation to my approach into the coming season.
I just want you to know that the journey up to now, the first six years has been pretty amazing, and that's because you guys made it amazing for me. It's one of those things that if you don't laugh you cry so, so you gotta try to lighten it up, but, see a lot of guys and girls come and be a part of the WAFL or any level of football in WA and it's like joining the circus, you run away from home for a while, you go out and you chase the ultimate glory around Perth and back home again for 6 months and then you pack it up and move on to the next town. And i come out here and i bleed every Saturday up in the commentary box wether it be at Bassendean, Lathlain, Mandurah or anywhere in the WAFL, and it's cause i, like the players, fellow commentators and punters are all chasing that circus dream, being a part of a premiership if you're a player or coach, or even calling a grand final which i had the fortune of doing twice in 2025. And so I guess all I can do is wish that you all, players, fans and everyone have as much fun on your journey and your circus dreams as i've had so far, and uh, just know that you know what? I'm coming back for a 7th year behind the mic, i will continue chasing that circus dream so i'll see you in a few weeks and i look forward to it sharing it all, sharing These Days in Season 2026.
This season promises to be a hotly anticipated one, the drama and excitement of last year has not even faded away from Claremont taking back to back flags in the WAFLW following an exciting finals series, South Fremantle taking the flag in Craig White's first season as coach, the re-emergence of Perth as a finals contender and the superstars continuing to shine in WAFL & WAFLW football.
In the last month or so i have been jotting down the thoughts of mine and two of my wonderful colleagues, Tim Lees & Ethan Roth who joined me on this project to di-sect the fortunes of the 10 WAFL Clubs that we will feast our eyes on as they chase that circus dream of the WAFL Premiership.
That project is a special programme for fans young and old to read in anticipation of an exciting WAFL season called "These Days: A Prologue To The 2026 WAFL Season."
This prologue includes illustrations of all 10 WAFL Clubs, quotes from coaches on the season and full fixtures in both the WAFL & WAFLW 2026 Seasons.
The programme which is free to view, can be accessed and downloaded by clicking the following link.
Hope you enjoy the programme and i'll see you at the footy on March 28th.
